STZ-Induced Diabetes

Streptozotocin (STZ) is an alkylating agent that targets insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas, mimicking Type 1 diabetes phenotypes in mice. Propel your preclinical research using on-demand STZ-injected models generated on various genetic backgrounds, as well as additional services available to researchers worldwide.




Key benefits

  • Diabetes is induced in C57BL/6J, NOD-scid, and NSG male mice using validated protocols
  • No need to handle STZ: we safely dispose of the harmful chemical and only provide mice with non-fasting blood glucose exceeding 250 mg/dL

Capabilities

  • Diabetic mice are available at 7-9 weeks of age
  • Customizable options using other JAX strains, different doses, and more, after our feasibility assessment
  • Outbred J:ARC(S) males respond to STZ with the highest blood glucose of any strain tested to date
  • Diabetes can be induced in nude mice, including outbred J:NU males and inbred NU/J males & females
  • We can also inject neonatal C57BL/6J pups for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) research and other projects
  • Diabetes modeling can be integrated with Efficacy Testing Services and histology services as needed
