New Strains Available

Prices and ordering information. Stocks carrying new gene mutations are available from the MMR as breeding pairs or in small numbers of mutants and controls (up to 6 mice per order can be provided in 1 - 3 months). Greater numbers may be available for some strains. All orders and inquiries about strain availability should be placed through JAX Research Systems Customer Service and Ordering. For up to date price and product information, search the JAX Mice Database or visit the Mice Orders section of the JAX Mice & Services Web site. Orders are shipped on a first-come-first-served basis. DNA is preserved from all mutant strains.

New mutations. New spontaneous mutations are genetically mapped and tested for allelism with other mutations that map to the same chromosomal region. If a new mutation is not allelic with any previously described mutation, it is considered a new gene mutation. These new mutations provide valuable information about gene function and many may also provide new models of human genetic disorders. If a new mutation occurs in the same gene in which other mutations have previously been described, it is considered a remutation. Remutations are a valuable aid in cloning genes identified by spontaneous mutations. They also often provide a means to assess the phenotypic effects of different types or locations of mutations in a gene. If the phenotype of mice with the remutation differs from the phenotype of the original mutation, or if the remutation occurs on a preferred genetic background, embryos or germplasm are preserved. The remutation stock may be maintained as a breeding colony as well, depending on demand.
